From the Editor...

As we head toward the end of summer and the long Labor Day weekend, it's time for us to take our annual publishing break. It's our opportunity to take some time off and relax a bit before we head into the home stretch of 2024. We'll be back on Sept. 3, ready to hit the ground running to keep readers up to date on the latest trends and developments in the mutual fund governance space. Before we sign off, though, I'd like to draw your attention to some recent stories we've published.

Access to key figures in the fund governance space sets FBV apart, and we've recently exclusively interviewed Hassell McClellan, independent chair of John Hancock Funds, about the status of the board's years-long replenishment efforts; Glenn O'Flaherty, independent chair of two Aquila Group of Funds boards, about the adviser's exit from the fund business; Lloyd Wennlund, independent chair of Datum One Series Trust, about the status of the transfer of seven Brandes Funds to his board's purview; and MFDF President Carolyn McPhillips on the group's efforts to ensure it's ready for what's coming.

We've also reported on AllianceBernstein Funds' plan to move to a unitary board structure in 2025 and the new independent chair in the Putnam Funds boardroom, which has welcomed a new independent director into the group. Our latest 10 Things... list covers what boards should consider when overseeing alternative investment funds, and our most recent Viewpoints is an op-ed from industry veteran Meyrick Payne, who retired from Management Practice Inc. after 40 years in the fund governance biz.

Enjoy these last weeks of summer, and we'll see you in September.

For now,

Hillary Jackson, founding editor
