MarketWatch's Jaffe to smart-beta funds: 'Put up or shut up'

February 11, 2016

By MarketWatch

MarketWatch columnist Chuck Jaffe has offered up an ultimatum to "trendy" mutual funds and exchange-traded funds: Put up or shut up. "'Alt funds' and smart-beta issues have been all the rage for a few years in the financial world, but no one wakes up one morning and says 'I want to buy something complicated and hard to explain'," Jaffe writes in his latest piece. "Instead, these products are sold and the advisers pushing them—and fund companies making them—have built the sales pitch on what the funds are supposed to do, particularly when the market gets hairy."
