MarketWatch's Jaffe: Fund investors deserve more

MarketWatch columnist Chuck Jaffe believes mutual funds should be giving investors more for their money. "The mutual fund business believes that the only thing it owes you for your money is a positive return. It is right, to a point, because no one is going to complain when returns are good enough," he says in a Dec. 1 opinion piece. "But the math tells us that half of all funds are below-average performers, and plenty of funds that top their average peer come up with other ways of being disappointments, from inconsistent returns to causing tax headaches and more."
