Financial sector ETFs stay strong

Exchange-traded funds that track the financial sector have maintained their upward momentum in the new year, with investors continuing to pour money into the group. Banks were among the biggest gainers of last year, with most of their advance coming in the final two months of 2016, following the election of Donald Trump. The sector is expected to benefit from two concurrent tailwinds: deregulation under the incoming administration, as well as a rising interest rate environment.
