From the Editor...

It's still summer, but it's starting not to feel like it already. With the unofficial end-of-summer Labor Day holiday out of the way and the days getting a wee bit shorter each week, we're well on our way to autumn and, before too long, year-end. Here at FBV, we're feeling re-set and re-energized from our annual two-week shutdown and excited about what's in store for the rest of 2019.

Since returning, we've brought readers details of a new leader at Independent Directors Council. Amy Lancellotta, who has served the fund governance community for the past 13 years as managing director of IDC, will retire at the end of this year. Her replacement, Thomas Kim from the Mortgage Banker's Association, will join IDC in mid-October.

Be sure to also check out our latest 10 Things list, this one focused on board oversight of sub-advisers. There's a lot of useful information in there, so it's worth spending time with. And as always, we're happy to take suggestions for future 10 Things lists—just email us your ideas or give us a call!

We've also published the latest edition of FBV Monthly, which is a pdf-formatted anthology of our stories from the website. The newest one, sent out last week, covers the months of July and August.

And finally, from earlier in August, we've got the latest on the 36(b) case against MetWest and details of a derivative suit against Sequoia Fund. Let us know if there's anything you'd like to read—or read more—about. We love to hear from readers!

For now,

Hillary Jackson, founding editor
